Gerald A. Harris

Mr. Harris graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School and later attended North Carolina A&T State University and Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. He completed the prescribed courses by the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards and received an Associates of Science Degree in Funeral Service.

Mr. Harris completed his Resident Trainee Apprenticeship under the tutelage of Mr. James F. Johnson and Rev. Dr. Benjamin Whitlock. His Embalming Clinical was conducted at Gus Thornhill’s Funeral Home in East Point, GA. For many years he also served as manager and trade embalmer in Greensboro, Burlington and surrounding cities.

Mr. Harris was awarded the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation and became a life member of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice and among the first class to receive the Certified Funeral Service General Manager (CFSGM) designation from the General Managers Academy of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc. He also participated in the first Beyond Dreaming Leadership and Entrepreneurship seminar hosted by the Gregory B. Levett, Sr. Family Foundation among many other conferences across this country and abroad.

Other affiliations include: Pi Sigma Eta National Morticians Honors Fraternity (Theta Chapter), Epsilon Nu Delta Mortuary Fraternity, Inc. (XI Chapter), Lone Star Lodge No. 33 F&AM (PHA), Reidsville Consistory No. 224 and Abdallah Temple No. 189.

He is a member of Graves Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors for Up With Christ Down With Crime.

He was also the recipient of the 2024 Humanitarian Award from the Rockingham County Branch NAACP, the 2025 Rev. Eddie C. Hughes Memorial Award from the Human Relations Committee and the 2025 Past Master James Johnson award from the Lone Star Lodge Lodge No. 33.
