Obituary

Missionary Zenora L. Wilson Kenley passed peacefully on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Pelican Healthcare, Reidsville, NC.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel, 721 E. Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC with family visitation one half hour prior to the service.  Public viewing will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

"Zee" as she was affectionately called, was born November 24, 1946, in Reidsville, North Carolina to Bettie Mae Wilson and the late Gordon Wilson and was the first of ten children.  After graduation from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC.  It was at FSU that Zenora became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Zenora accepted the Lord as her personal Savior early in life and was a member of Greater Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church in Reidsville, NC.  Later in life she became a member of Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in Columbus, Ohio.  She served as a Missionary, Sunday School teacher, member of the young adult choir, and was on the Mother's Board.

In Benton Harbor, MI, Zenora met George Kenley they united in Holy Matrimony.  To their union they adopted twin girls, LaToya Sheree Owens and the late LaTasha Rene Smedley.

She taught school at Dominion Middle School for 25 years and retired in 1998.  Her favorite past time activities included scrapbooking, playing Scrabble with her family, going camping, and traveling with the "Kenley Konnection."

In addition to her father and her daughter, she was predeceased by brother, Clendon Wilson.

Zenora leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, LaToya Owens (Toy), of Indianapolis, IN; grandchildren, Kayla Kenley, Nalani Smedley, Niah Smedley, Coretni Owens (CJ), Phillip Smedley III, and Cameron Owens (Cam); mother, Bettie Mae Wilson, of Reidsville, NC; sisters, Judy Odds, Jarnice "Poochie" Coffin and Bettie LaVern Wilson, all of Reidsville, NC; brothers, Leslie Earl "Al" Wilson (Jackie) of Allentown, PA, Alvino Wilson (Dale) of Reidsville, NC, Gordon David Wilson Jr. (Vanessa) of Winston-Salem, NC, Larry Wilson (Sandra) of Milwaukee, WI, Anthony Wilson (Shirley) of Winston-Salem, NC; sister-in-law, Sharon Wilson of Duluth, GA; aunt, Charlotte Wilson of Reidsville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.  McLaurin Funeral Home is serving the family.

Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. C ovid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
