Wylene Lamberth Mitchell, daughter of the late Clyde and Claudia Jones Lamberth, was born on May 23, 1929. Following a period of illness, she departed this life on Wednesday, October 18, 2017at Hospice of Rockingham County.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 23, 2017 at Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church with a visitation thirty minutes prior to the service and burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Wylene was a native and lifelong resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina. She was a homemaker and babysat children in the community. Wylene was a member of the Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church. During her leisure, she enjoyed reading the newspaper (which she called it getting out her homework) and watching Wheel of Fortune. The love she had for her family and others was evident by her enthusiasm for life, which was exemplified. Wylene was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring grandmother, a faithful sister and supportive aunt. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and laughter that would light up the entire room. As the Matriarch of her family, she will also be remembered for her commitment, sacrifices as well as her favorite dishes to cook, sweet potato pie, potato salad and fresh lemonade. We shall miss her for we loved her dearly. May God grant us grace and comfort during our sorrow.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Major Mitchell, daughter; Peggy Mitchell, sisters; Helen L. Smith and Naomi Lamberth, brother; Howard (June) Lamberth.
