Ms. Williette Hamlet Durant passed away at her home on July 24, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA.  Born in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late Willie and Novella Hamlet, she attended Reidsville public schools and was a 1961 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a 1965 graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C.

From childhood until leaving for college, Williette was an active member of Jerusalem United Holy Church in Reidsville.  She retired from teaching in the Philadelphia school system after 38 years.

Williette is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Novella Hamlet and she is survived by: partner, Sam Durant; daughter, Nicole Durant McLaurin (Kevin); granddaughter, Gelisa McLaurin, all of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters: Jacquelyn Dorsey of Capitol Heights, MD and Janice Hamlet, of Sycamore, IL; two brothers: Larry Hamlet (Elizabeth), of Mitchellville, MD and Danny Hamlet, of Waldorf, MD; lifelong girlfriends, Sandra Slade, Gloria Bass Walker, and Tempia Totten, all of Reidsville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other dear friends.
