Wilbert E. Williams, Sr.

Mr. Wilbert E. Williams, Sr. husband of Pyrita Kim Williams passed on July 6, 2017. Viewing will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2017 from Noon until 6:00 pm at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A homegoing service will be held 11:00 am , Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at First Baptist Church East End, 3000 Jefferson Avenue,Newport News, Va. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Wilbert Ellison Williams, Sr., was called to eternal rest after a lengthy illness on Thursday, July 6, 2017. He was the youngest child of ten born to the late Pete and Pearl Swann Williams on October 29, 1940 in Reidsville, North Carolina.

Wilbert joined Bluestone Baptist Church, Reidsville, NC at an early age. Shortly after graduating from Caswell County Training School, Yanceyville, NC in 1958, Wilbert moved to Newport News, VA. Wilbert gained employment as an Electrician with Northrup Grumman Newport News where he worked for 43 years retiring in January 2003. Wilbert was married to the late Joetta Lee Williams and to this union two children were born.

Wilbert was an avid sports enthusiast; his favorite sport was baseball and he was an outstanding player. He also enjoyed working as a mechanic, and loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with many.

Wilbert later joined First Baptist Church, East End where he became involved in many church ministries to include Male Ushers, Men's Fellowship, Twelve Baskets (Homeless Feeding) and Trustee. He was always willing to assist with the maintenance of the church and help others in any way possible.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Eliza Watlington, Mary Tucker and Mattie Mitchell. Wilbert's life and legacy will forever be cherished by his devoted wife, P. Kim Williams, son, Wilbert E. Williams, Jr. (Crystal), loving daughter Wanda Basley (Michael), step-daughter, Tifani Garris, brother, Wiley Williams, sisters, Catherine Comer, Dollie Dodd, Gladys Doe (Rev. John B. Doe), Pearl Whitsett, and Mildred Totten; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
