He worked at the Cone Mills, Greensboro News and Record and American Tobacco Company (The Factory). When the factory was purchased by Brown and Williamson, he move to Macon Georgia to continue his career until retirement. He move back home and stayed retired for seven days and started working for Walmart until finally retiring at age 79. He took great pride in caring for his home, especially mowing his grass, and he was well known for always keeping his truck spotless. He would drive to Greensboro just to get his truck cleaned.
Walter is survived by his children, Darrell (Angela), Walter Jr. (Desiree), Anthony (Sasha) and Tammy; brother, Jeff; sisters, Marie and Faith. All will remember him for his steady presence and quiet dedication to his family. He was a proud grandfather to Jordan, Jalen, Sydney, Troy, Mya, Alora, I'Kima, Kayla (Rodney), Anyla, Anavii and a host of cousins each of whom brought him joy and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Sr. and Clorene and brother, Irving whose examples helped shape the man he became. Walter's family and friends will remember his strong work ethic, his love of a well-kept yard, and the care he showed in the everyday details of life.
Special thanks to his nephew Lamont Jones for going above and beyond helping with his care.
