Walter “Snookum” Rankin

REIDSVILLE, NC - Mr. Walter B. Rankin, age 61, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Annie Penn Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 4, 2026 from the Benaja Mt. Zion Holiness Church of God, 600 McWalker Road, Reidsville, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 1:30 p.m. Dr. Melvin T. McLean, Jr., will serve as eulogist. 

The committal and interment will follow in the Benaja Church Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.

All other times, the family will receive friends at the home - 1608 Flat Rock Road, Reidsville, NC.

Walter B. Rankin also known as "Snookum" was born in Rockingham County November 12, 1964 to Walter Rankin Jr., and the late Ruby Ann Ziglar. 

He was educated in the local public schools and attended Reidsville Senior High School. 

He worked as a master carpenter. He demonstrated excellent carpentry skills and was very knowledgeable of his trade. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, watching football, and of course riding around. 

He was proceeded in death by his biological mom, Ruby Ann Ziglar and two brothers Bernard Slade and Andy Slade. 

He leaves to cherish his memories, parents: Walter Rankin Jr. and Louise Rankin; children: Charice McCurdy, Michael Rankin and Christina Brown; siblings: Tony Rankin (Shuvon), Tammy Rankin and Tameka Henry (Bryan); grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members and friends who will forever cherish his memories.
