Walter E. McTier "Shag"

REIDSVILLE, NC - Mr. Walter Edsol McTier, at the remarkable age of 101, peacefully passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the Penn Nursing Center. With grace and a gentle spirit, he leaves behind cherished memories that will forever warm our hearts.

A viewing will begin on Friday, August 28, 2026 from 12 until 6 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 from the Elm Grove Baptist Church, 1302 US-29 Business, Reidsville, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by the service at 1 p.m. Pastor C. Bradley Hunt, II will officiate and Reverend Dr. Clarence Johnson will serve as eulogist.

The committal and interment will follow in the Elm Grove Church Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.

All other times the family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Santha K. Davis, 184 Slade Drive, Reidsville, NC.

Walter Edsol McTier, also known as "Shag" was born to the late Leslie McTier and Eva Wilson McTier.

He was born on November 16, 1924 and departed this life on August 17, 2026.

Mr. McTier received his formal education in the public schools of Rockingham County and retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company in 1987 after 27 years on the 3rd shift in the Service Department.

He was a longtime member of Elm Grove Baptist Church attending regularly until his health declined.

In addition of his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice Slade McTier; sister, Addie McTier Bell; sons-in-law, Alvin Davis and Jules Evans.

Those left to cherish his memories are loving daughters, Santha Kay Davis and Leslie "Dianne" Evans; sister, Rosetta McTier; niece, Eva "Marie" Bell; grandson, Alvin Davis, Jr (Carmen); step-grandson, Jules Evans, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Audrianna Davis, Alton Davis and Ashton Davis; a host of relatives, church family and treasured friends.
