Obituary

GREENSBORO - Mrs. Vernell "Pat" Totten Thomas, departed her earthly life on Sunday morning July 20, 2025 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center at the age of 74.

Public viewing will begin on Friday, July 25, 2025 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 1 p.m. from the Believers Missionary Baptist Church, 235 Ward Road, Greensboro, NC. The family visitation will take place at 12:30 p.m. Dr. Gregory T. Headen will officiate and Reverend Melvin Nelums, eulogist.

Interment will be held in Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro, NC.

All other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 2321 Killarny Drive, Greensboro, NC.

She was born December 11, 1950 in Reidsville, NC to the late George Irvin and Naomi Totten Moore. Vernell, affectionately known as "Pat" to the family, was educated in the Rockingham County School system and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School class of 1969. Upon graduating high school she became employed with Cone Mills Corp. Revolution Plant. A few years later she transitioned her place of employment to Equity Meats Group in Reidsville, NC where she worked 35 years until her retirement.

Pat was married to Robert Lee Thomas, Jr. for 34 years until his passing in 2024. Whenever you would see Pat, you would see Bob. They were definitely inseparable.

In her spare time she loved putting puzzles together, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She loved family gatherings and everyone always looked forward to eating her pecan pies and rum cake.

She accepted Christ during her young adult years and was a member of New Ephesus Baptist Church in Ruffin, NC. Later on in her Christian journey, Pat along with her husband Bob joined Believer's Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. While there, they served as Deacon and Deaconess. Pat volunteered at the Greensboro Urban Ministry's Potter's House alongside other church members. She was very dedicated to her church, willing to help in any capacity that she could. She also served as an usher until her health would not allow her to do so.

She was preceded in death by her parents; George Irvin and Naomi Totten Moore, her beloved husband Robert Lee Thomas, Jr., brothers Gary Totten, Larry Moore and Clarence Moore, sisters Cynthia Moore and Patricia Moore Chavis. She leaves to cherish her memories; Sisters Anita Moore and Malaria Moore; brothers Charles Totten, Terry Moore, Cornelius Moore (Jan), and Irvin Moore (Priscilla);sister in-laws Cynthia Totten and Shirley Moore. She had 2 God Children, Treavon & Kailyn Pickard. She had some special cousins by her side during her illness; Earlene Johnson & Charlene Blackwell and special friends Nadine Turner, Roylene Wilkerson, Mae Spencer; A special mother figure that she cherished, Mildred Cherry. Also left to cherish her memories were a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
