Tyrone Lester Jenkins passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Hospice Home of High Point.

He was born on August 16, 1951, in Washington, DC.  He grew up in Northeast DC, with family roots in the historic Anacostia section of Southeast Washington DC. Tyrone received Christ at a young age and attended Campbell AME Church in Anacostia DC, and Upper Room Baptist Church in NE, DC. He later served in ministry alongside his daughter and son-in-law.

Tyrone graduated from McKinley Tech High School in 1970, where he enjoyed participating in acting and music programs.  In 1971 he married and from that union Yuvetta Shantel Jenkins (Cash) was born. Tyrone joined the United States Army in 1973 and was stationed at Fort Ord in California.  He later worked for the US Postal Service for over 20 years before moving to Greensboro, NC.

Tyrone enjoyed many leisure activities; his favorites were roller skating, listening to "good" music, dancing, and reading.  He was a regular skater at the famous DC Kalorama Skating Rink where he was a member of a skate team.  He continued skating well into adulthood.  Tyrone was a music lover, with an impressive collection of hundreds of albums (and later CDs). He was an unofficial DJ who was called upon to play music at cookouts and house parties.  He would come with milk crates full of "get on the dance floor" music. Being a great dancer himself, he always knew what to play.  Tyrone enjoyed family gatherings and celebrations.  His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, filled with laughter and some of his favorite foods. He was an avid reader, especially the Bible, and religious books.

Tyrone moved to Greensboro in the late 1990's.

On November 9, 2002, he married Cheryl Owens. As a couple they attended Godly Faith Christian Center. They later joined New Millennium Christian Center where Tyrone served as a Deacon; finally moving their membership to We Are One Christian Fellowship where he served on the Prayer Ministry Team, the Senior Choir, the M.O.V.E. Men's Ministry and trained for the Deacon Ministry.

Tyrone had many skills and talents, and was employed by Davidson's Inc, Allied Universal Security Services, and later retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Tyrone and Cheryl enjoyed traveling together to different destinations throughout the east coast, with a favorite being the beach. They enjoyed numerous musical concerts of all genres together with friends.

He was known not only asTyrone to those who loved him, but also as T-Y and Ty.  Tyrone was always kind and generous to everyone. Although he walked quietly he made a huge impact on all those he met.

Tyrone was preceded in death by Robert Jenkins (father), Shirley L. Stith (mother), and Austin McMillan (grandson).  He is survived by devoted wife Cheryl Owens-Jenkins, daughter Yuvetta Shantel Cash (Russell J. Cash, Jr.), Russell Josef Cash (grandson), Victoria Shantel Cash (granddaughter), Derrick McMillan (son), Natalia McMillan (granddaughter) daughter Stephanie Bolton (Duane Bolton) grandsons Stephen McMillan and Cameron Bolton (Xitlaly Bolton), and Grace Bolton (granddaughter), Marcus McMillan (son), brothers Don Jenkins (Ellen Jenkins), Keith Stith (Renee); and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
