Mrs. Thelma DeLois Logan Callands passed away peacefully on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Hospice of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel with family visitation one half hour prior to the services. Burial will be held at Greenview Cemetery and public visitation will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2022 from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel, 721 E. Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Thelma DeLois Logan Callands was born April 06,1926 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to the late David William Logan and Annie Jones Logan. She was the last of her generation.
At an early age, her family moved to Rockingham County, North Carolina, where she attended the local public schools. She continued her education at North Carolina A. & T. State University in Greensboro, North Carolina and upon completion, she worked as a nurse at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, North Carolina.
After being joined in Holy Matrimony to the late George Washington Callands, she matriculated to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where she became employed at Atlantic City Hospital as a nurse in the Formula Room/Nursery. The family resided in Atlantic City, NJ for 10 years, and then relocated to Reidsville, NC. She then began employment at Morehead Hospital in Eden, NC as a nurse in the Nursery and remained there until her retirement.
Upon her relocation to Reidsville, NC, Thelma became a member of Jerusalem United Holy Church. She remained a faithful member until her health began to decline.
She leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Minister David Callands, Sr. and Levi Callands, both of the home; grandsons, Bishop David Callands, Jr. of High Point, NC, Geoffrey Callands and Eric Callands (Tiffany), all of Eden, NC; great grandchildren, Chelsea Callands, Chayia Callands, Chalia Callands, Morgan Callands and David Callands, III; special nieces, Leatrice Lambe, Minister Yvonne Johnson, Ann Hinestrosa and Cynthia Logan Martin; special cousin, Clara Dawson; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
