She was the daughter of the late Posey and Verniece Daye of Eden, North Carolina.
She was reared in Eden, North Carolina, with her brothers, the late Herman and Michael Daye, sister Willette Sharpe or 'Sista' as Sylvia and others lovingly called her. In addition to those siblings who preceded in death; husband, Walter 'Dump' Mills who waited in heaven for Sylvia's arrival.
During life's journey, Sylvia's nurturing spirit not only caressed her family, but also those who she cared for as a CNA both at Council on Aging and privately as often requested, for over 45 years. Later, Sylvia retired to enjoy spending time with family especially her grandsons, Aayden Mills, Maahqeez Mcclinton and Theodore "Ted' Leeper. She loved cooking, talking on the telephone, watching African films on YouTube, Facebook and spending time with her Brooks Place Apartment friends.
Although Sylvia no longer possesses an earthly presence, memories of being compassionate, funny and knowledgeable shall linger within the minds of all that were touched by her. She will be cherished most for being an amazing granny, mom and nona who loved baking cookies and making holidays extra special.
Sylvia leaves behind her brother, Edgar Jerome Daye; children, Tonya Mills or Belle as she called her and Walter 'Shortie' Mills; brothers-in-law, James 'Kermette' Mills and John Mills (Esther); sisters-in-law, Anna Daye (Michael) and Roxie Daye (Herman); goddaughter, Consuela Gamble (Harold); best friend, Annie Dickerson who remained by Sylvia's side as her health diminished; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
