Shirley Ann Galloway Foster was born in Wentworth, North Carolina on December 9, 1937 to the late Samuel Henry Galloway and the late Maggie Pearl Wooten Galloway. Shirley entered Heaven's gates on Friday, October 25, 2019.

Shirley graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, North Carolina. She married the love of her life.  To this union, three beautiful  children were born.  Later in life, Shirley attended Rockingham Community College studying early childhood education, where she eventually worked as a Lead Teacher.  She retired in January of 2003.

A loving mother and homemaker, Shirley was an exceptional baker and seamstress.  She enjoyed preparing decadent desserts for her family and friends.  She was most known for her chocolate layered cake and cherry yum yum.  Shirley was an avid gardener and truly possessed a "green thumb."   She often shared the harvest of her herbs, which she grew in her flower beds.  She also loved to watch sports.  Shirley loved the Church and worked tirelessly with the United Methodist Women, the Older Adult Ministry, and also served as a Laity Speaker.

Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, George T. Foster. She is survived by her daughters, Shirlisa Foster Mapp (Travis) of Ellenwood, Georgia and Sonya Foster of the home; and her son George Terrell Foster (Tonicia) of St. Petersburg, Florida.  She is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Galloway McCarthy and Delma Irene Galloway both of Greensboro, North Carolina; a brother, John W. Galloway; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Shirley was cared for in her home by her daughter, Sonya Foster, in addition to other family members, church members, and dear friends.  The family expresses their warmest and greatest gratitude to all who assisted in caring for Shirley.

McLaurin Funeral Home is serving the family.  Condolences may be sent to www.mclaurinfh.com
