Sandra LaVerne Davis was born on June 3, 1943, in Rockingham County to the late Thelma Johnson Davis and Robert Henry Davis. After her mother died at childbirth, Sandra was adopted by her loving grandparents, Ethel Barnett Johnson and Harry T. Johnson who raised her as their own. On Tuesday night, February 10, 2026, God saw fit to ease her suffering in this earthly life and welcome her "home".
Sandra joined church at an early age at First Baptist Church where her grandfather was the Chair of the Deacon Board. She was fully engaged in the mission of the church and participated in many of the Sunshine Band, Youth Choir and BYPU activities. During her adult years, she was very active as President of Mission Group #3 and sang in the Gospel Choir. She and her family later moved their membership to Jerusalem United Holy Church where she served faithfully until her health declined as a Stewardess, as a member of the A.W. Lawson Chancel Choir and as Administrative Assistant to Bishop Mary E. Jackson.
Educated in the Reidsville Public School System, she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1961. Sandra stayed in touch with many of her classmates and was very instrumental in keeping her classmates together, helping to plan every class reunion that was held. After high school graduation, she matriculated at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC and was a "forever Golden Bull."
Sandra was employed at Burlington Industries, Inc. in Reidsville, NC and retired after more than 30 years working as an Account Manager for Sears, Roebuck. Retirement did not quite suit her, so she continued to work first, as a cashier at Winn-Dixie, then as an administrative assistant at Newbridge Bank and lastly, as a cashier at Food Lion, having worked more than 45 years of her life.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she is predeceased by her husband, Robert Henry Slade.
Those left to celebrate her life and cherish precious memories are: two daughters, Gigetta Slade Garvin of Reidsville, NC and Kimberly Slade of Greensboro, NC; granddaughter and caretaker, Dejanae' Martin of Reidsville, NC; grandson, Ryan Hayes, II of Greensboro, NC; great-granddaughter, Rejanae' "Kenzie" Thompson of Reidsville, NC; brother, Deacon Morris Ray Davis (Angela) of Reidsville, NC; goddaughters, Dr. L. Denise White of Greensboro, NC and Trenna Nelson of Jacksonville, FL; godsons, Onzar "Trey" Williamson, III of Reidsville, NC and Robert Nelson (Jamikka) of Ocean Springs, MS; special cousins, Barbara Thompson of Forestville, MD and Adele Staton of Reidsville, NC; nieces; nephews; other relatives and special friends, Dawn Caggins (Elliott), Judy Chapmon, Irene Courts, Judy Gordon, Loretta Jones, Barbara Slade and Nancy Tate.
