On Friday, June 12, 2020, the Lord dispatched His angels to bring home His son, Samuel Earl Brown.  Born on November 6, 1947 in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late W. T. Brown, Sr. and Gertrude Denny Brown, "Sam" as he was affectionately known, was a gentle giant, also known to be humble, faithful, loyal and kind-hearted.  As a giving and devoted family member, Sam touched the lives of his family, as well as the lives of all who knew him.

The youngest of nine, he was raised in Zion Baptist Church and remained a faithful member.  He was educated in the public schools of Rockingham County and graduated from the former Booker T. Washington High School in 1966.   After graduation, Sam attended Rockingham Community College before transferring to Campbellsville College in Kentucky.  There Sam earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences and moved to New York City upon graduation.  During his career, Sam held several positions in the fields of community relations and youth services.  In 1972, his first job was as a personnel supervisor at Election Services and that same year, he became a teacher at Bronx River High School in Bronx, NY.  Two years later, he became a Vocational Evaluation Counselor at Manhattan Psychiatric Center in Wards Island, NY and was employed there until 1979.  He later became a teacher for New York State Division of Youth in Bronx, NY.

After Sam's retirement and in keeping with Social Studies, his passion for traveling blossomed.  He visited Thailand, Egypt, China, Japan, Alaska, and Africa (where he resided and held a business), to name a few.  He was always ready to share his knowledge of the countries he visited and would always bring back pictures, statues, and souvenirs.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by one brother, George Brown and one sister, Carolyn Ann Brown Booker.

He leaves to cherish precious memories:  his sisters, Verdell Lane (Willie), of Reidsville, NC, Estelle Conner and Rebecca Brown Bossier, both of Greensboro, NC, and Gerdia Brown Keesee, of Reidsville, NC; his brothers, Rev. William T. Brown, Jr., of Greensboro, NC, Rev. James Brown, and Fletcher T. Brown, both of Reidsville, NC; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
