Mr. Ronnie Shaffer, Sr., age 75, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.
Public viewing will be held Friday, January 26, 2024 from 12 until 8 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC. The family will be present during the wake from 5 until 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 401 Hubbard Street, Reidsville, NC. The masonic rites ceremony will begin at 11:15 a.m., followed by the family visitation at 11:30 a.m.

Ronnie was born in Madison, NC on November 30, 1948 to Marion Shaffer and John Wesley Cardwell.
He was educated in the public schools and graduated with the class of 1968 from Charles Drew High School in Madison, NC. He later furthered his education at Rockingham Community College. In his early years, he attended Hayes Chapel United Methodist Church in Madison, NC and later joined First Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC.
Ronnie was a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and served his country with pride. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was honorably discharged in 1971. For over 20 years, he worked as a mechanic for American Tobacco Company in Reidsville, NC and later transferred to Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation in Macon, GA.
Ronnie was a member of Lone Star Lodge #33 F&AM (PHA) and was formerly associated with Khalif Temple #144, Reidsville Consistory #224 and American Legion Cone Post 386, Inc. He was also an avid bowler and played with the American Legion Soft Ball Team. He loved football and was a diehard Washington Redskins fan!
Ronnie was affectionately known to many as "The Godfather" and took this title very seriously. There are too many godchildren to name, but he showed up for each of them whenever he could. He was always ready to get the party started with his signature dance move, "The Mudduck." He will forever be a part of our memories through all of the lives he has touched along the way.
He is survived by his wife, Canzadie Shaffer; children, Ronnie Shaffer Jr. (Tasha) and Michael Shaffer Sr. (Candice); grandchildren, Sylvester Shaffer, Jacque Anderson, Zane Shaffer, Savannah Shaffer, Malcolm Shaffer, Michael Shaffer Jr., Christopher Shaffer, and Christopher Lamar Shaffer; great-grandchild, Aspen Shaffer; brother, Steve Shaffer of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Nancy Lyles of Winston Salem, NC and Janice Barham of Reidsville, NC; special friends, Elaine Courts and Tilda Watkins Morehead; a host of relatives, godchildren and friends.
