In the midst of serenity and godliness, the Lord called Robert "Buck" Edward Blackwell from his earthy home to a land that is forever free on Tuesday October 1, 2024 at UNC Health Rockingham Hospital in Eden, NC.
Robert was born in Caswell County, NC on April 23, 1941 to the late Robert Blackwell and Lucille Poteat Blackwell.
Robert was a native of Caswell County, but later moved to Reidsville, NC after uniting in marriage to the former Mary Alice Coates in 1963. Robert was educated in the Caswell County School System. During his childhood, he was raised by James and Bessie Blackwell Williamson. He was a faithful member of New Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church, where he was Co-Chairman of the Trustee Board. He flourished spiritually there and loved his fellow members. Buck was a 49-year member of Lone Star Lodge #33 PHA in Reidsville, NC. He was also a Miami Dolphin Fan.
Robert was a faithful husband and father to his four sons. He was a loving grandfather to his grandson, Aman James Blackwell.
Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to go hunting with his buddies, Arnold Pickard, John W. Smith, Charlie Foust, Clarence Hamlet, Glidewell Brown, Steve Foust, Mel Brown and Robert Coates.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Coates Blackwell of the home; sons, Terence Coates (Shawnda) of Greensboro, NC and Timothy L. Blackwell of Reidsville, NC; grandson, Aman James Blackwell of Danville, VA; brother, Michael "Lee Mac" Blackwell (Viola); sisters-in-law, Betty Martin, Barbara Foust and Vernell Blackwell; brothers-in-law, Robert Coates (Brenda) and Howard Coates; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Brian Blackwell and Jonathan L. Blackwell; sister, Elizabeth Ann Blackwell Stamps; brother, Charles Horton Blackwell.
Public viewing will begin Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 12 until 8 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 2 p.m. at New Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church, 8939 US Hwy 158 W, Ruffin, NC. The family visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor, Reverend E. Lamar Boykin eulogist.
The committal and interment will follow in the family plot of Greenview Cemetery, Reidsville, North Carolina.
