Mr. Palmer Delano Curry expired on Sunday, November 2, 2014.
Funeral services were 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Bethel AME Church, Holderby St., Reidsville, NC with a visitation 12:30-1:00 P.M. prior to the service.
Palmer Delano Curry, the second child born to Limmer Palmer Curry and Charlie Will Curry, was born in Reidsville, NC on February 27, 1937. He attended the public schools of Reidsville, graduating in the class of 1956, a class which voted him "The Most Courteous," when it selected its Senior Class Superlatives. He was presented a certificate for perfect attendance at graduation, a certificate which also complimented him on his lack of tardiness. He frequently expressed to his "Baby Sister" his desire to pass on to her his penchant for timeliness, since she seemed to have a problem getting anywhere on time. He declared that she would be late for her own funeral.
Upon graduation from Booker T. Washington High School, Palmer attended the Winston Salem Barbers College in Winston Salem, NC. Upon completion of those college requirements, he passed the North Carolina State Board and became a practicing barber in Reidsville for many years, until he decided to venture to Atlantic City, NJ. He enjoyed working at Atlantic City's then famed Traymore Hotel on the noted Boardwalk.
Upon learning of the serious illness of his mother, Palmer returned home to Reidsville where he resided until his death. He was gainfully employed for many years by Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville.
Palmer always, from childhood, enjoyed attending church. He grew up in Bethel AME, where he was baptized at an early age. He has been a faithful member at Bethel, having served as a Trustee, an usher, and a choir member. He was a regular attendee at both Sunday School and at church. Several years ago he was selected as "Man of the Year" at the Western District AME Annual Conference in Durham, N C.
Palmer's second favorite church was Chapel Hill Primitive Baptist Church, his mother's church home, a church founded and pastured for many years by her father, the Rev. Clem Palmer.
Palmer loved good gospel music and he loved walking and just talking with good friends.
Palmer is survived by his siblings, Dr. Charles L. Curry (Vera, deceased), Silver Spring, Md, Ms. Virginia Ann Curry, Potomac, MD, and Dr. Sadye B. Curry, Potomac, MD, nephews, Charles L. Curry, Jr., (Elaine), Durham, NC, Judge Marc E. Curry (Angela), Bowie, MD, and Dr. Bryan H. Curry, Washington, DC. He loved and enjoyed many cousins with whom he grew up and maintained a special relationship, especially Bettie Vaughn and Rose Palmer. He was known to frequently inquire about his great nieces and nephews.
Palmer was a loving, outgoing, God-fearing person. Heaven has just received another gem.
