Mrs. Olivia Jean Johnson Carter completed her earthly journey on May 22, 2021 at Beacon Place in Greensboro, North Carolina.   She had won her race in victory and now rejoices in the presence of the Lord.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Chapel Holiness Church in Browns Summit, North Carolina.  Public viewing will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the McLaurin Memorial Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

A lifelong resident of Reidsville, North Carolina, Olivia attended the public schools of Rockingham County and graduated from Booker T, Washington High School, Class of l958.  She was owner and manager of Angela's Fabric Shop in Reidsville, NC for years and later attended Rockingham Community College to hone her skills at cake decorating, floral arranging, and sewing. Olivia's specialty was wedding and birthday cakes, which she so proudly provided for anyone who requested her services. Family always looked forward to her baking beautiful cakes for their weddings and other special occasions. Her passion was homemaking and she enjoyed entertaining friends and family, especially on holidays.  She was a kind and loving person, who always welcomed you with open arms.

At an early age, she joined Grooms Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Houston Badgett.  There she organized the first Junior Choir, served as an adviser to the Junior Usher Board, taught Sunday School and was a member of the Senior Usher Board.

Olivia married John Henry Carter and they were blessed with over 52 years together and a wonderful daughter, Angela.  After they were married, Olivia moved her membership to be with her husband to St. Thomas Chapel Holiness Church, under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Tyronne Hunter.  As a faithful servant, Olivia continued her work as a member St. Thomas and joined the Usher Board and later became Usher Board President, serving faithfully for many years.  She also taught Sunday school and joined several other ministries within the church. Olivia enjoyed working in the church and was always willing to work in any capacity needed.  For her most important endeavor in life, was her walk with God.

Olivia had a sweet, calm, and quiet spirit; one that touched everyone she met.  Her love of God, devotion to her husband, dedication to her church, love for daughter, Angela and extended family was unconditional and inspirational. Her life story was a great example for family and others to live by.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary B. Johnson, Margaret Hooper and Alma Johnson; and brothers, Elmo Johnson and Herbert Johnson, Jr.
