Olivet
Nunley
Nov 7, 1948 — Aug 27, 2022
Mr. Olivet Nunley departed his earthly tabernacle on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at UNC Rockingham Health Center in Eden, North Carolina, after several years of stay in the Brian Center dealing with health issues from Parkinson's Disease. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Rocky Ridge Missionary Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with family visitation one half hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with public visitation to be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Olivet Nunley was born in Reidsville, North Carolina on November 7, 1948 to the late George and Rebecca Whitsett Nunley. "Olie", as he was affectionately called, attended Rockingham County Public Schools starting at Lincoln Elementary. His secondary education started out at the historic Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, NC. After integration, Olivet along with several others helped to shape local history by attending Ruffin High School in Ruffin, NC, where he graduated in 1968.
Olivet was employed at Creighton Shirt Factory, Plastic Revolutions, and various other businesses in the area. Growing up in the country, Olivet had many chores that became hobbies. He would assist family/friends in harvesting tobacco, vegetable and animal farming, fruit picking and preservation, cutting wood, planting flowers, house building and tinkering on cars, while also taking care of his nieces and nephews. His "me time" was spent conversing with family and friends, watching Wheel of Fortune or his favorite, Steve Harvey on Family Feud.
Rocky Ridge Missionary Baptist Church is where Olie found Christ and became a lifetime faithful member, serving on the Trustee Board for several years. He loved his church family very much, even traveling from the Brian Center amidst Covid-19 restrictions to make a church parking lot visit for what would unknowingly be his last.
In addition to his parents, Olie was preceded in death by brothers, Vincent Nunley, Quincy Nunley, Ruben Nunley, and George Nunley, Jr; and brother-in-love, Johnny Keen.
He leaves to cherish his memory: brothers, Levitus (Juanita) and Bruce (Mary), all of Reidsville, NC; one sister, Lauretta N. Keen of Eden, NC; sister-in-love, Marie Stacey Nunley of Winston-Salem, NC; along with a great host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, dear friends, his Brian Center family and roommate, Ken.
Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. C ovid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
