Obituary

Mrs. Nettie A. Lea passed on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at UNC Rockingham Hospital in Eden, North Carolina.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Bluestone Missionary Baptist Church with family visitation beginning one half hour prior to the service.   Public viewing will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019 from 1:00 to 7 p.m.

Born to parents, Georgianna Griffin Abbott and Charlie Abbott in Reidsville, North Carolina, Nettie was educated in the Rockingham County public schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1954.

Spiritually, she joined Bluestone Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and remained very active serving on the Culinary Committee, Chairperson of Missionary Group #4, and formerly a member of the 700 Club, until her health declined.

She married the love of her life, Robert Lea, in July-1959 and after 60 years, she still enjoyed taking walks with him.  Nettie also enjoyed reading and studying the Word and served as an Encourager of the Word.  She was a great cook and could cook everything, but especially cakes and pies.  She was very creative and even attended Rockingham Community College to learn to make flower arrangements and to sew.  More importantly, she just enjoyed spending time with her family.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, are sister – Elretha Young, and brother – Alexander Abbott.

Those left to cherish precious memories are her loving and devoted husband of 60 years – Robert Lea, of the home; daughters – Laverne Lambeth (Larry), of Ruffin, NC, and Irva L. Moyer, of Eden, NC; one son – Robert S. Lea (Geneva), of Ruffin, NC; sisters – Georgianna Johnson, Cornelia Abbott,  and Virginia Sober; brothers – Walter Abbott and Charlie Abbott; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
