Our beloved Nathaniel Edrington Hewitt, lll, known as "Mackie" to his family, transitioned to his new destiny on June, 8, 2018. He was born in Houston, TX on July 12, 1965 to Dr. Nathaniel Edrington Hewitt, Jr. and Minnie Louise Christian Hewitt, who both preceded him in death.
Family visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Rosewood-Premier Funeral Associates and funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley McCabe United Methodist Church in Longview, TX.
"Nate" graduated from West Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem, NC and subsequently attended Winston Salem State University, where he majored in Elementary School Education. He later joined the Coast Guard and was discharged honorably after many years of service. He further pursued a Masters Degree in Instructional Technology as well as an EDS degree and was at the end phase of completing his Ph. D. in Computer Science prior to his illness impeding his studies.
Post military service, he was employed by North Carolina Public Schools, as well as various universities. He last was employed at Wiley College as Vice President of Information Systems Technologies. Nate was a member of several professional organizations, but he most loved Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
His impact was very widespread and he will be truly missed by his family, and the vast community that he's touched over many years to include: his beloved wife, Janel Yvette Gorrell Hewitt, of the home; son, Richard Edrington Hewitt, of the home; sisters, Denise Hewitt Chaplin (Willie), of Virginia Beach, VA and Michelle Hewitt-Smith (James), of Greensboro, NC; brother, Christopher Eric Hewitt, of Winston-Salem, NC; aunt, Amabel Compton, of St. Croix, VI; sisters-in-law, Bertene White and Dr. L. Denise White, both of Greensboro, NC; brothers-in-law, Irvin Burnett White, Jr., of Rancho Cordova, CA, Richard Gorrell, Jr., of Greensboro, NC, and Stephen Andre' Gorrell, of Hope Mills, NC; and a plethora of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
