Mrs. Mozelle W. Darby passed on Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Private funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Bold Springs Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with burial at Chapel Hill Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. Public viewing will be held on Monday, February 1, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel.
Born Mozelle Vernice Williams on December 18, 1930 to the late Rev. Raleigh Fred Williams and Julia Ann Jones Williams in Leaksville, North Carolina, she was the baby girl of four. Mozelle attended Glen Elementary, Chapel Hill Middle at Bold Springs Church and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, North Carolina.
At a young age, Mozelle became a member of Bold Springs Missionary Baptist Church and was involved in the following ministries: Missionary Circle, Church Announcer, Gospel and Senior Choir, and Usher Board. She worked at the American Tobacco Company, Dr. Perkins' Office, Martinsville Memorial Hospital, Zarn Mills, Burlington Industries, and retired from Macfield (Unifi). Mozelle's retirement was short lived. She returned back to the workforce with the Council on Aging and Shipman's Family Home Care until the passing of her sister.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Beauty of Reidsville No. 477 where she served as Past Matron. In her early twenties she met and married the late Arthur Lee Darby. To their union were born three children, Fred, Odessa and Kelly.
In addition to her husband, Arthur Lee Darby and parents, Rev. Raleigh and Julia Jones Williams; Mozelle is preceded in death by son, Kelly Lee Darby; brother, Wilbert Williams; sisters, Mary Evelyn "Sister" Williams and Annie Pauline Dillard.
She leaves cherished memories to son, Fred (Gloria) Darby, of Reidsville, NC; daughter, Odessa (Roosevelt) Oglesby of Greensboro, NC; daughter-in-love, Carolyn T. Darby, of Reidsville; grandchildren, Denetra (Willie) Owens of Youngsville, NC, Brandon Darby of Reidsville, NC, and TaSheka Oglesby of Greensboro, NC; "Granny2's loves", great grandchildren, Dasaiah, Jayla and Darby of Youngsville and Nadia and Kamryn of Eden, NC; nieces, Maxine (Lawrence) Burns, Vivian (Tommy) Blackstock, and Marie Watt; nephews, Robert Earl (Ada) Williams, and Raleigh Williams; special cousins, Cordelia Mills, Rhodia Johnson and James Thornton; special friends, Teresa Whitt and Jarnice (Poochie) Coffin; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
