On the morning of August 2, 2025, Heaven welcomed home a true matriarch. Barbara Ann Coates Foust, born on May 14, 1941, in Reidsville, North Carolina, departed this life peacefully, surrounded by love, and entered eternal rest with her Lord and Savior.
Barbara was the cherished daughter of the late Cleveland Coates and Edna Brown Coates. She was the devoted wife of the late Charlie Foust, with whom she shared more than 40 years of unwavering love and partnership.
A lifelong resident of Rockingham County, Barbara was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1959. She dedicated 28 years of her life to the American Tobacco Company, where she retired with honor and grace.
Raised in a Christian home, Barbara's faith was the foundation of her life. She answered God's call at an early age and became a deeply committed member of Elm Grove Baptist Church. Her service to the church was a testament to her spirit—faithful, generous, and full of purpose. She served as President of the Pastor's Aid under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Clarence Johnson, and was an active member of the Usher Board, the Senior Choir, and a Sunday School teacher who poured wisdom into generations to come.
Barbara's presence was a blessing to all who knew her. She was a nurturer, a counselor, a joyful spirit, and the heart of her family. Her legacy of love, strength, and faith lives on in all those she touched.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie Foust; her parents, Cleveland and Edna Coates; her sister, Sara Coates; and her brother, Melvin Coates.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving children— Barry Foust (Shelia), Cynthia Foust, Stephen Foust, Kim Foust, and Christy Reynolds, and; Her treasured grandchildren—Stephen, Renate, Jasmine, DeAnna (Justin), Raven, Kyler, Kaleb, and Kylie; Her great-grandchildren—Jaylynn, Kyan, Nora, Arianna, and Kenneth (K.C.); Her dear siblings—Betty Martin, Mary Blackwell, Robert Coates (Brenda), and Howard Coates; Her godchildren—Mary Alston, Marcus Pascal, Nicole Slade, Eddie and Debra Anglero, and Sabrina Martin; Special friends—Ella Carter, Portia Williamson, Minister Wilfred and Brenda Pass, Judy Thacker, Canzadie Shaffer, Daisy Alston, Cecelia Blackwell, Phil and Ollie Lawson;
Special neighbors—Rose Palmer, Betty Blackwell, and Delores Jones; And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Barbara's life was a beautiful example of grace, strength, and unwavering faith. While her physical presence will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her soul rest in perfect peace.
