She was born in Caswell County, NC on May 12, 1923 to the late Joe B. Blackwell and the late Lizzie Totten Blackwell.
She was a life long member of New Ephesus where she was a former member of the senior choir.
For many years, she was an employee of Penn Factory and later retired as a dietician from Annie Penn Hospital.
Mom exhibited love to everyone and in term, received it back! She had a jovial side to her that kept us and others always laughing and smiling! She wanted everyone to get along and wanted to always keep the peace! She told us all the time that you can put someone in their place with not a single bad word! Mom also loved to work in the yard, loved to help our Dad with the garden plantings after which she canned or froze the fresh gatherings! She liked to walk in the woods with Rocky, gathering the different trees and plants to make the landscaping around the house more appealing! Mom had several phrases she loved including, "be who you are", "don't let the devil fool you" and "don't wait until someone dies to give them their flowers"! She really liked to hear our brother Larry Jones sing "Cooling Waters", Joe's "Chow Chow", Gloria singing solos in church, Peggie's "Meat Balls" and Oleta's "Spaghetti"! She's going to be missed sitting on the left end of the fourth pew from the front of the church after she retired from singing in the Gospel Choir! She gave a lot to others and expected nothing in return! The church family will really miss her and the one of the things that will give us peace and solace is knowing that she's with the Lord whom she loved and worshipped when she realized his love and joined the church!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Jones; sons, Larry Jones and Jerry Jones; grandson, Deeja Jones; daughter-in-law, Hazel Jones; brothers, John Blackwell (Kate), Percy Blackwell, Onzie Blackwell (Mary), Sandy Blackwell (Beatrice), George Blackwell, Eugene Blackwell, Herman Blackwell (Fannie); sisters, Minnie Jones (Lorenzo) and Ruby Blackwell (John); nieces, Willie Mae Johnson (Richard) and Garrie Watlington (Julius).
