REIDSVILLE - Miss. Melody Lynn Speaks, age 60, made her transition from earth to heaven on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Eden Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Eden, NC.

Public viewing will begin on Friday, August 2, 2024 from 1 until 8 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Elm Grove Baptist Church, 1302 US-29 Business, Reidsville, NC. Pastor, Reverend C. Bradley Hunt, II will deliver the words of comfort. The family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Interment will follow in the Elm Grove Cemetery.

Melody was born April 24, 1964 in Long Island City, (Queens) New York to Edward Eugene Speaks Sr. and the late Etha Linda Neal Speaks. She was the youngest of three children and the only girl.

She attended Norman Thomas High School in New York, NY from 1978-1982. She was employed at New York City Department of Human Resources New York, NY from 1984-1995. Following her move from New York to Reidsville, North Carolina, she retired from Rockingham County Department of Social Services after serving 20 years.

She was an active member and the secretary of Elm Grove Baptist Church where she attended faithfully. In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Melody loved her lipstick, makeup, mirror, coats, wigs and purses.

Melody was proceeded in death by her mother Etha Linda Neal Speaks.

She leaves to cherish memories: her father, Edward E. Speaks Sr.; daughter LaShae' Robinson Price (Dionte'); one granddaughter, Princess Laila Mariah Price; two brothers, Warren Earl Speaks and Edward Eugene Speaks Jr.; one nephew Kendall Speaks; aunts, Billie Jean Mowring; (Tack), Norita Speaks, Gwen Speaks, Almeta Speaks; auntie/cousin Ollie Lawson (Phil); best friend/cousins, Lisa Howard, Keith Hart (Kay), cousin/sister, Debbie Lawson Harris "Puddin" (Jerome), Stacey Neal (Eric); caregivers: Gail Jones, Sheila Banks (Lionel) and Demetria Williamson. special cousin/son, Phillip Lawson; special daughters, Jasmine Scott and Keri Harris.
