REIDSVILLE - Mr. McArthur "Mac" Lawson, age 62, passed away peacefully Friday, June 6, 2025 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and close friends after a courageous battle with cancer.
Public viewing will begin on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church, 401 Hubbard Street, Reidsville, NC. The family visitation will take place at 1:30 p.m. Pastor E. Lamar Boykin will preside and Pastor Troy Manns, eulogist.
The committal and interment with military honors performed by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in the Wentworth Baptist Church Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
All other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 906 Walnut Street, Reidsville, NC.
He was born in Rockingham County, NC on August 4, 1962, to Evelyn Fountain and Reverend George Pickard. His formative years were in the Rockingham County School System. He was a graduate of Rockingham County High School Class of 1980.
He was known for his sharp wit, big heart and his special ability to make people laugh wherever he went.
He had a special gift for connections; a trait that served him well in his many years working in customer service. Whether over the phone or in person, "Mac" had a way of making people feel heard, seen and appreciated.
"Mac" proudly served in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged following an injury.
During his time in service, he developed a deep appreciation for other cultures and m became fluent in foreign languages, something he carried with him throughout his life.
He loved His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of which was evitable as he was a member of Wentworth Baptist Church under the tutelage of Pastor Troy Manns.
A true people person, "Mac" found joy in simple pleasures; playing pool, writing heartfelt poetry, and indulging in what he lovingly called "retail therapy." But above all, he loved being around family. He never missed an opportunity to visit, call, or lend a hand to someone in need. His four sons, Maurice, Montae, Marcus, and Malik were the center of his world. He spoke of them often with deep pride.
McArthur's life was a testament to resilience, generosity, and the kind laughter that lingers in a room long after the moment has passed. He will be remembered for the love he gave freely and the light he brought to so many.
McArthur was predeceased by loved ones: bonus father, Johnnie Garland; sister, Lavern Pickard; maternal grandparents, George, Sr. and Lucille Fountain; paternal grandparent, Frances Pickard; maternal aunt and uncles, Marie Barnes, Albert Fountain, Burley Fountain, Sr., George Fountain, Jr. Harold Fountain, Leroy Fountain and Joe Hairston, Sr.; paternal uncles, Albert Lawson, James Lawson, Bill Lawson and Walter Cobb.
In his loving memories, sons; Maurice Lawson, Montae' Lawson, Marcus Lawson and Malik Lawson; mother, Ms. Evelyn Lawson; father, Reverend George Pickard (spouse, Ernestine); sisters, Marietta Lawson, Loretta Lawson-Jenkins (spouse, Keith) and LaVatry Pickard; brothers; George Lawson, Johnnie Ray and Eric Johnson; aunts, Estella Wimbush (spouse, Jimmie), Judy Hairston, Barbara Hearn, Sarah Wright and Sallie Moyer; uncles, James Fountain (spouse, Carolyn), Chester Fountain, Sr. and Kenneth Fountain, also left to cherish many memories, the mother of his children and former spouse, Felicia King Lawson, As well as a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, relatives and dear friends who will miss him dearly.
