Obituary

Mrs. Maxine Ethel Moorman Brown, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Graves Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 5373 Badgett Sisters Parkway, Yanceyville, NC. The family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Kenneth E. Walker will deliver the words of comfort.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will begin on Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

She was born on December 15, 1934 in Roanoke, VA to Reuben Moorman and Tiny Noel Moorman.

She was educated in the Roanoke City Schools System and attended Lucy Allison High School.

Mrs. Maxine was a former member of Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA and later joined Graves Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Yanceyville, NC where she faithfully served on the Pastor's Aide Committee and was a former choir member.

She was an active and dedicated member of Pride of Locust Hill Chapter #624 Order of the Eastern Star.

Several years ago, she was a member of the NAACP where she won "Mother of the Year" for the Caswell County Branch.

For many years she was a domestic worker for Robin Mullins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Douglas Brown; son Reuben Moorman; daughter-in-law, Leona Moorman; sisters, Josephine Crump, Dorothy Miller, Australia Farmer and Robin Moorman; brother, Robert Moorman.

Survivors include granddaughter, Freda Drewery (Nierron); great-granddaughter, Kierra Drewery; step-daughter, Brenda Cobb; foster children, Mason Garland, Joy Farrish and Leonard Hughes; sisters, Stephanie Moorman, Deborah Moorman and Amy Darden (Jason); brother, Reuben Moorman, Jr.; step-sisters, Dorothy Jones, Brenda Vineyard, Sandra Rosser (Frankie) and Candy Moorman; step-brother, Michael Moorman and Walter Hicks (Scarlette); brother-in-law, Glidewell Brown, sister-in-law/caregiver, Violet Mae Motley; caregivers, Lisa Holley, Mavis Davidson and Gerald Harris; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many cherished friends.

A very special thanks to all who called, visited, prayed and supported Mrs. Maxine during her illness.
