Mrs. Mary Wallace Powell Jones passed on Tuesday,  June 30, 2020 at Penn Nursing Center in Reidsville,  NC.  A private Celebration of Life memorial will be held.  Public viewing will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home on Saturday, July 4, 2020 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Mrs. Mary Wallace Powell Jones, was born to the late Major Powell and Daisy Scales Powell on October 10, 1925 in Reidsville, North Carolina and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Penn Nursing Center.

Mrs. Jones, an anointed and talented vocalist, joined Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC and served in many ministries for over 50 years until her health declined. Additionally, she was a member of the Senior Choir as well as various other organizations within the church.

Her gift of singing was manifested when she was very young and in the 40's and 50's, it paved the way for her to become one of the vocalists in the notable gospel group, The Powell Sisters.  She enjoyed singing and praising the Lord, as well as growing and caring for her house plants.  She shared her beautiful voice and spirit with all who crossed paths with her.

She was employed at the Style Center, Burlington Industries and American Tobacco Company, where she retired with 30 years of service.

Preceded in death by the late Edward Simpson and Porter Jones, she leaves to cherish her loving memories, one daughter, Barbara Simpson Bennett of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, John Hammock, Jr. (Heather), of Nebraska; Chanson Russell (Shekera), of Virginia; Durand Bennett and Chauncey Bennett, of North Carolina, and Serita Bennett Wright, of Georgia; one sister, Aileen Moore, of Reidsville, NC; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
