Ms. Mary Donnetta Walker passed on Wednesday, November 17, 2022 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel with family visitation one half hour prior to the service. Public viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Mary was born on October 28, 1957 in Burlington, NC to the late Rev. Worth Marion Walker and Mary Ann Motley Walker. She attended the public school of Rockingham County and participated as a band member, a flag girl and a Candy Striper while at Reidsville Senior High School. She also matriculated at Rockingham Community College for two years majoring in Early Childhood Development.
Mary was employed at Dorado Foods (formerly Equity Meats) for 19 years and retired on her birthday, October 28, 2022 saying "now I spend more time in church", with a desire to be baptized again. Always a quiet, humble and gentle person, the friends she met during those 19 years were touched by her presence.
She enjoyed spending time at the beach and her last trip was with her daughter, Dilisa and granddaughter, Sarai. She talked about making many more trips with the two of them and planned to enjoy every moment. Her favorite past-time was going out to eat at Hardees, PJ's, Fisherman's Gallery, Carolina Diner, Jake's and Popeye's Chicken.
Those left to cherish precious memories are: daughter, Dilisa Marie Walker; granddaughter, Sarai Walker; sisters, Cheryl Walker (James) and Shelly Walker Brim (George); nieces and nephews, Leon Jermaine Walker (Tina), Minister Katrina G. Harrison, Krystal Galloway (Vernon) and James Galloway, Jr.; great nephews and great nieces, Jermaine Walker, Jamari Walker, Janya Walker, Kamya Mills and Kennedie Mills; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
