Mary Jane Bouldin Graves was born June 8, 1924 in Elon, NC, to the late Azzie and Ola Bouldin. Mary Jane was ALWAYS a Godly lady. Loved and affectionately known as "Big Momma", she decided as a child walking barefoot in a freshly turned field on her daddy's farm to serve God for the rest of her life, always wanting to live right in the sight of God. And she did just that in the raising of her children and she had a hand in raising other family members' children. She loved with her entire heart, her entire family and all of her friends. She stood for love, peace and happiness and exemplified that in her everyday walk. She enjoyed and loved to cook for her family and friends because she believed food always brought people back together. Mary Jane loved her husband, children and grandchildren so much, they were her top priority, her life was God and her family. She also loved a host of other people's children as if they were her own. She would oftentimes just sit and pray for her family, friends and neighborhood.
Mary Jane took great joy in being a member of Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where her dad donated all the lumber used to build the original church building. In her latter years, she joined Agalliao Christian Chapel to support her son and daughter-in-love, Pastor Cleandrus Graves and First Lady Laverne Graves.
In addition to her parents, Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Graves; sisters, Amy Bouldin, Lena Vie Totten and Norene Davis; brothers, James Bouldin and Willie Bouldin.
Those left to cherish her memories are: daughters, Lillie Dones and Mona Lisa Graves; sons, Clarence "Junnie" Graves, Cleandrus "Cle" Graves (Janette) and Lorenza Graves; three grandchildren, Carlos Dones, Tyree Hairston and Shanta Valdez; ten great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
