Obituary

On Sunday morning, August 7, 2016, Mrs. Manley Pearl Ellington Stokes went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a long term illness. Our precious wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend was born in Reidsville, NC on January 9, 1944 to the late Annie Bell Oliver Ellington and the late William Robert Marshall Ellington.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 12, 2016 at McLaurin Memorial Chapel with a visitation 12:30-1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Reidlawn Cemetery.

Manley Pearl, as she was known by a number of friends was a 1962 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. She always looked forward to her class reunions. She worked in the health care field for a number of years. Early in life she was an active member of First Baptist Church, later in life an active member of True Vine Tabernacle Baptist Church. She truly loved and enjoyed her family and friends. She also loved sitting around the table drinking coffee and traveling to Texas to spend time with her grandchildren.

Manley Pearl was married to Melvin Stokes for 47 years until his death.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Deborah Reynolds, Maxine Womble; 2 brothers: Ronnie Ellington, Larry Ellington.

Surviving relatives left to cherish and enjoy her memories are: her daughter; Melany Dones (Carlos); grandchildren: Autumn, Aminah and Carsten; brother, Theodious Robert "Robin" Ellington of Philadelphia (Diana); sisters in law: Gwen Ellington, Lula Ellington, Beatrice Savage, Clarie Perry (Aubrey) and Estella Stokes; special and loving cousin Eugene Ellington Jr. (Carol); God daughter Tomika Fleming (Marcus), their children MJ and Liam; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Public viewing will be Thursday, 1:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
McLaurin Funeral Home is serving the family.
