Bryant
Jun 29, 1961 — Aug 25, 2020
Mrs. Lorna Darlene Stewart Bryant passed on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC. Graveside services will be held at Greenview Cemetery on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. Public viewing will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 2 - 7 p.m.
Lorna Darlene Stewart Bryant was born June 29, 1961, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Barbara Jean Slade Stewart and John E. Stewart Sr.
Lorna moved to Rockingham County at an early age and grew up in the "Racetrack" neighborhood, which she dearly loved and remained close to many of those childhood friends. She joined First Baptist Church at an early age where she gave her time and energy joyfully, and remained faithful and active until her health declined. She was a member of the Culinary Committee, Mission Group 1-4-5 and the church's Relay for Life team.
She was educated in the Rockingham County public schools and graduated from Reidsville High School, Class of 1979. She then attended Winston-Salem State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in May of 1984. She was a "proud WSSU Ram" and attended homecoming events every year.
After graduation, she started a new journey, working and serving her family, church and community. She was united in marriage to her husband, Timothy W. Bryant in November 1997. To this union was born one child, Timia Alana Bryant.
While attending WSSU, she worked for the Hyatt Regency Hotel. After graduation she became employed at the Piedmont School where she worked with children that had special needs and learning disabilities. She also worked as a Belk sales associate at the former Carolina Circle Mall before finding her niche at the Guilford County Sheriff's Office. There she worked as a records officer in the detention center for more than 15 years before health issues cut her career short.
It was during this time that she devoted much of her time caring for many family members and a multitude of other friends. After the passing of her mother she became the "Solid Rock" for the rest of the family. She was very proud of all her nieces and nephews always giving her love and support to each one of them. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills with frequent requests for Punch Bowl, Red Velvet and Pecan Pound Cakes, and that's just a few of the favorites. As her daughter would say, "She was a beast in the kitchen."
In addition to her parents, preceding her in death is her sister, Dana Stewart.
Those left to cherish precious memories are her husband, Timothy W. Bryant, of Browns Summit NC; daughter, Timia Alana Bryant, of Browns Summit NC; siblings, Deidra Stewart Thacker (Donnell), John Stewart Jr., and Kim Stewart (Beverley) all of Reidsville NC; nieces and nephews, Deondra, Quintin, Omar, Desmond, Jordan, Justin, Jevon, Michaiah, and Kabriya; great nieces and great nephews, Le'Andre', Alexiona, Jordon Jr., Adrian, Justin Jr., Jacari, Ace; godchildren, Tiffiany Thomas, and Christopher Palmer; many cherished friends, cousins, and extended family including Donna and Earl Palmer, Ronnie and Canzadie Shaffer, Dr. Denise White, and Peachie Ziglar Cheeks.
