Lena Thomas McAllister was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on March 10, 1925 to the late William Sherman Thomas and Carrie Bell Johnson. She moved to Reidsville, North Carolina at an early age.  Upon graduating from Booker T. Washington High School, she moved to New York with her best friend, where she lived for several years.  Lena returned to Reidsville and married George D. McAllister, Sr.  To this union they added two sons, George D. McAllister, Jr., and Quintin L. McAllister.

Aside from being a homemaker and raising her sons while her husband George served in the U.S. Marine Corp, she was very active at Zion Baptist Church.  Affectionately known as "Mama Lena", she was a member for more than 80 years and served faithfully in various auxiliaries, including the Junior and Senior Choirs, Sunday school teacher and the Senior Missionary Department.

She was also active in the community as a former member of Golden Circle Assembly #224 and Elks Dunbar Temple #463, where she served as Vice Daughter Ruler, Secretary, Treasurer and Chaplain.  She also enjoyed meeting her friends for lunch, playing games, traveling, and attending events as a member of the Downtown (Reidsville) Senior Citizens Club.

Lena loved to cook.  She would spend hours in the kitchen cooking traditional southern food and baking her favorite desserts like butter pecan pound cake and pecan pie.  She also enjoyed knitting and sewing during her free time.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, George David McAllister, Jr.

Those left to cherish precious memories are:  son, Quintin L. McAllister (Deborah) of Reidsville, NC; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
