Mrs. Lena Elizabeth Corbett Evans, age 92, departed this life on October 20, 2023 at home surrounded by her family after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 23, 2023 at 12 p.m. at Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church, 191 High Rock Road, Gibsonville, NC. The viewing will begin at 11 a.m. with the family arriving at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Thomas Pinnix, Jr. will deliver the words of comfort.
The committal and interment will follow in the church cemetery.
At the family's request, there will be no public viewing on Sunday.

Mrs. Lena was born May 3, 1931, in Caswell County, NC to the late Willie and Maude Farrish Corbett. She attended the local public school. She retired from Annie Penn Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant and continued to work as a private health care aide for numerous years. Cooking and caring for her family and friends were her passions. She had a wealth of knowledge and shared it with whomever would listen; for example, her love of canning vegetables and making chow-chow or preserves. She could connect the dots in the blink of an eyewhen recalling her family history. Let's not forget about her famous sweet potato pies and potato salad. She was a 38-year breast cancer survivor, a mentor, and an advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness. Cancer wasn't her death sentence; it became part of her ministry. She was a faithful member of Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church, until her health declined. As a member, she served as Choir President, Assistant Sunday School Teacher, President of the United Methodist Women, Chairperson of the Food Committee, and was on the Burial Committee. She also sang with the Camp Spring's Community Choir. She loved going to greenhouses and enjoyed all types of flowers. From her affectionate love of flowers was birthed the Candy Creek Estate Flower Club, where she was a founding member.
On February 19, 1949, she married Robert Evans, and they celebrated 52 years of love, trials and all things that go with marriage. Divorce was never an option and they exhibited that love through their six children. She cared for him until his death. Along with her husband, the following preceded her in death. One son, Douglas Evans; one grandson, Tyree LaMond Evans two great grandsons; Zachariah Tee Pinnix and Grace Pinnix; sisters; Odell Robertson, Dora Carter, and Betty Russell; brothers; Paul Corbett and Silas Corbett; and fur babies; Harpo and Rudy.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters; Lenora Pinnix (Thomas, Sr), Linda Harrison, and Annie Lee Evans. sons; Willie (Catherine) and Robert (Sherry) Evans and daughter-in-law;Brintley Evans. One foster-daughter; Mary Lee Bolden; one god-daughter, Tyrell Singletary; 26 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and blessed friends.
