Obituary

Mr. Larry Jerome Cook Sr. , age 68, transitioned this life on Tuesday June 6, 2017, at his residence in Brown Summit, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Benaja Mt. Zion Church of God Inc., with a visitation 12:30 P.M.-1:00 P.M. prior to the service and with burial to follow in Benaja Church Cemetery.

Larry was born on January 23, 1949, in Reidsville, Rockingham County, North Carolina, as the fifth of ten children to the marital union of the late Percy Lee Cook, Sr. and Mary Sue Harris Cook. In his earlier life, Larry became a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church.  Larry attended Booker T Washington High School.

He was united in Holy Matrimony on September 16, 1967, to Barbara Jean Settle. The Lord blessed their union with six children.
Larry worked at Cone Mills Corporation (White Oak Plant) in Greensboro, North Carolina, for several years. He worked at Greensboro Auto Auction, Peterbilt Trucking Company, Triad Bottle Water Company and Greensboro Manufacturing Company.

Larry loved people and enjoyed spending time with his family, neighbors and friends. He loved to cook and was well known for his great soul food. He was also known for his love for music and performing musical instruments. Larry was very talented and played the organ, piano, drums and primarily the bass guitar. Larry used his love for cooking and music to bring people together. People would gather at his home for great food, laughter, music and fellowship. Larry also mentored and worked together with others with musical talents to provide entertainment, enjoyment and fun for those he loved. In addition, Larry loved drag racing and collecting vintage Chevrolets. He had a passion for traveling and especially the serenity of the beach. Larry would also challenge you in a competitive game of horseshoes and was a passionate fisherman. Larry's many talents touched more people than he knew and he will be forever remembered for his enduring spirit and love for people.

Larry was preceded in death by his Daughter: Kimberly Michelle Foster; Son: Larry Jerome Cook Jr.   Parents: Percy Lee Cook, Sr. and Mary Sue Harris Cook; Brother: Percy Lee Cook, Jr.; Sisters: Mary Louise Cook, Geraldine Cook Pass and Lillie Mae Cook Neal.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 50 Years, Barbara Jean Settle Cook of Brown Summit, NC; Sons: Steven Craig Cook (Lena Nicole Cook) of Reidsville, NC, Charles Clayton Cook of Brown Summit, NC; Daughters: Latasha Darell Asahguii of Greensboro, NC, Tamersia Raquel Boulware of Greensboro, NC; Sixteen Grandchildren and Eleven Great Grandchildren; Brothers: Joe Louis Cook (Cynthia) of Harrisburg PA, Reverend Reginald Cook (Jasmine) of Greensboro NC; Sisters: Gwendolyn Harrison (Chester Sr.), Denise (Flip) Cook, and Darlene Bass (Michael) of Reidsville NC; Sister –in –law: Frances Cook; Brother-in-laws: Ronald Settle (Loretta), Willard Pass; Daughter-in-law: Brenda Cook, Nieces, Nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
