Gertrude was born in Pelham, North Carolina on February 24, 1947 to the late Helen Anderson Brown and Edward Brown, the seventh of eleven children. She was called to eternal rest on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Annie Penn Hospital after a brief illness.
She attended the public schools of Caswell County, graduating from Caswell County High School in the Class of 1966. Shortly after graduation, Gertrude married and started a family, with daughter, Donna, arriving in 1967.
Joining Gwynn's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age, she served in various capacities for more than 60 years. She joined Smith Chapel Baptist Church in 2015 and served faithfully in the Senior Choir and other auxiliaries until her demise.
A strong-willed and determined woman, she grew up in the local area and found employment at Fieldcrest Mills, working there for more than 30 years. Later, she worked as a clerk at Maxway Store in Danville, VA and later began a career in caregiving before her health declined.
"She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong." If a woman sets her mind on something, she will get it done — no matter what. Proverbs 31:16-17
Having a natural talent for interior decorating, Gertrude thoroughly enjoyed making over each room with just the right accent piece or paint color to create the perfect combination.
In addition to her mother and father, Gertrude was predeceased by sisters, Elaine Perkins, Mary Clark and Grace Miller; and brother, Charles Brown.
Those left to cherish precious memories are: daughter, Donna Price, of Burlington, NC; grandson, Trevor Price, of Greensboro, NC; sisters, Geraldine Adams, of Washington, DC and Brenda Woodson, of Reidsville, NC; brothers, Bobby Brown, of Washington, DC, Otis Brown (Charlotte), of Pelham, NC, Elder Morris Brown (Shirley), of Eden, NC, and David Brown, of Danville, VA; sister-in-law, Ethel Brown, of Washington, DC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
