Mrs. Julia Marie Bolden Motley went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, October 31, 2021 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 12 Noon at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Highway 29 Business, Reidsville, North Carolina. Family visitation will be held one half hour prior to the service with burial at Greenview Cemetery, Montgomery Street, Reidsville, NC. Public viewing will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Ju lia Mar ie Bolden Motley was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina on September 13, 1929 to the late Louvenia Pinnix Bolden and Lester M. Bolden, Sr.
Marie joined Elm Grove Baptist Church at an early age and remained faithful and active in the Senior Missionary Circle until her health declined. She especially enjoyed attending Bible Study.
She received her early education in the Elm Grove School and attended high school at Booker T. Washington High School, both located in Reidsville, NC. She retired from GTE-Sylvania in 1993.
Affectionately called "Tink" by her friends and family, she was well-rounded, well-traveled, loved to laugh and loved learning new things. She enjoyed numerous hobbies including gardening, as well as talking and socializing with her friends. Known as a "fashionista", Tink was an avid shopper and enjoyed looking for bargains. Her travels took her all around the United States and even to the Caribbean. In her younger years, she loved to dance and play softball. Her favorite team was the Carolina Panthers and she even traveled to Charlotte to attend many games in person. She also loved playing Board Games, especially "Monopoly" with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alvis Motley Jr., and brother, Lester M. Bolden, Jr.
Those left to cherish precious memories are: sons. James A. Motley, Baxter A. Motley, and Vernon M. Motley, Sr. (Dianne) all of Reidsville, NC; daughter, Emma Motley Broadnax (Franklin) of Reidsville, NC; brothers, Cecil Bolden (Hazel) and Bobby Bolden (Rachel), all of Reidsville, NC; sister, Mattie Bolden Allen of Mason, OH; brother-in law, James Edward Motley (Rose) of Tularosa, NM; five grandchildren, Yolanda R. Motley of Winston Salem, NC, Vernon M. Motley, Jr. (Sabina) of Ellenwood, GA, Aisha Broadnax Gwynn (Kevin) of Yanceyville, NC, Nicholas Jared Motley of Raleigh, NC, and Erin Marie Motley Acey (Kenneth) of Durham, NC; twelve great-grandchildren, Elijah Motley (Christina), Najaila Motley, Imani Thompson, Zane Motley, Cameron Williams, Ian Holliday , Kevin Gwynn, Jr., Marceau Winston, II, Mariah Gwynn, Kenneth Gwynn, Luke Acey and Nichole Motley; daughter-in-law, Marva Motley of Raleigh, NC; nieces; nephews; special friends, Mattie Graves Bell, Mary Sue Bell Graves, Geneva Motley and Minister George Gunn, all of Reidsville, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
