REIDSVILLE, NC - Mr. Joseph Donnell Bass, age 73, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026 at Moses Cone Hospital.
A viewing will begin on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026 from the McLaurin-Harris Memorial Chapel, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 3 p.m., followed by the service at 3:30 p.m. Reverend Dr. Wallace V. Powell, Jr., eulogist.
The committal and interment with military honors performed by United States Army Honor Guard will follow in Greenview Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
All other times, the family will receive friends at the home of his brother, Michael Bass (Darlene), 170 Rolling Hill Drive, Reidsville, NC.
Joseph Donnell Bass transitioned from his earthly house to be with the LORD on Friday morning, April 3, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, North Carolina after a brief illness.
Joseph, better known as "Cookie," was the first born to Gladys E. Blackwell and Joseph Bass. He was educated in the Guilford County School System, Greensboro, North Carolina. He later served in the United States Army earning the rank of Sergeant as he served his country from 1973 -1977 in California, Germany, and Kansas. He received an honorable discharge. Once he left the military he went into custodial business. He worked different jobs in various states until he returned back home to manage the family custodial business.
Joseph had the personality of his mother who never met a stranger. He was resilient, vivacious, and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He could always make you laugh and possessed a unique sense of wisdom and wit. If you ever needed to travel, Joseph would be your chauffeur. His only request was a cup of coffee and two donuts. Once his request was fulfilled, he would drive you from north to south and east to west. He loved and had a passion for driving.
Preceding Joseph in death is his father, Joseph Bass, brother, Roger Bass, stepfather, Irvin Blackwell and mother, Gladys Blackwell.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Joseph D. Bass Jr., (Shenequia) Dallas, TX; three grandchildren, Giovanni, Gia, and Ginessah, who were the love of his life. Brothers, Dennis R. Bass, (Velvet-deceased), Michael A. Bass, (Darlene), Johnny E. Bass, (Mae) Reidsville NC, SMSgt Tyron Blackwell, USAF, Retired, (Dionne), Las Vegas, NV. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. One aunt, Naomi Wilson, Jersey City, NJ. The special love of his life and mother to his son, LaTonya Sturdivant, Dallas, TX. In addition, a plethora of great family members, friends, and associates.
