Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Joseph Howard Alexander, affectionately known as "Joe Moe" on February 21, 2019 in Charlotte, NC.   Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Zion Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m.

Born in Baltimore, MD, Joseph lived the majority of his 64 years in Reidsville, NC and later moved to Charlotte. NC.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary D. Alexander; grandmother, Nancy D. France; and his brother, Rufus Alexander.  Joseph loved his family until the end and was loved unconditionally by each of them.

"Joe  Moe", who could be stubborn and opinionated, was also kind, friendly and good hearted, while overcoming many obstacles in his life.  He loved sports and began swimming at an early age, later becoming a lifeguard at Pettigrew Park Pool in Reidsville, NC.  He especially loved golf and basketball and playing chess, even keeping a chessboard on his kitchen table.  He had just begun learning to play the guitar, a present given to him at Christmas by his brother-in-law, Vincent, much to the dismay of his fellow apartment neighbors.  We'd like to think that there are TV's in heaven so that Joseph can watch the Sports Channel.

Joseph attended Reidsville Senior High School and later completed a course of study at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC.  He was awarded an Associate of Arts Degree in Applied Sciences – Survey Technology,  He served in the Marine Corps, Third Battalion Platoon 393 at Parris Island before being deployed to Vietnam.

Joseph is survived by his sisters – Cassandra A. Bumpus (Leotis), Annette A. Bolden (Vincent), and Linda Alexander, all of Reidsville, NC; nephews, Vincent Bolden, II, and Charles Bumpas (Pattie) and Eddie Byrd; his beloved nieces, Felicia Bolden and Jessica Alexander; great-nieces,  Maya, Genaya and Janiyah; great-nephews, Brandon, Bryson, Machia and Alex.  He also leaves to mourn his passing, his cousins, Lutrellia, Nathaniel, and Theodore ("Tunie"); and a plethora of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that you remember "Joe Moe" and his family in your prayers.

McLaurin Funeral Home is serving the family.
