Mr. John Ray Scales passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at Moyer Nursing Home, Stoneville, NC.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 11, 2020 at Elm Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no viewing.

John Ray Scales was born on March 2, 1944 to the late John Ray Martin and Bessie Mae Hayes Scales.  He was reared by his aunt, the late Louise Blackstock.

John Ray attended Douglass High School and then entered the workforce in Martinsville, VA.

He was a faithful and active member of Elm Grove Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC where he sang in the Senior Choir until his health declined.

John Ray had a very outgoing personality.  He was one that never met a stranger and could out talk anyone.  Some of his favorite past times included making videos and going out to eat with family and friends.  He had a very generous heart and always loved to lend a helping hand to others when needed.

Those left to cherish precious memories are:  two sisters, five brothers, special friends, Garnett Surratt, Minnie Lee Petty and Dorothy Martin, and a host of other relatives and friends.
