Obituary

Mr. John Irvin Graves passed on Monday, January 4, 2021 at the Green Valley Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. (family only) at Garrett Grove United Methodist Church, 191 High Rock Road, Gibsonville, NC.

John Irvin Graves was born on June 27, 1930 in Rockingham County, North Carolina to Johnny Graves and Katie Graves. "John Irvin" as he was known, passed away at the age of 90.

John spent his life on the family farm, where he raised tobacco and other crops. Although he worked at other jobs, farming was in his blood. "John Irvin", as he was called by many, will be remembered for his friendliness and his willingness to help anyone in need, whether they were friends, relatives, neighbors or someone just needing a helping hand. He was also known for his wonderful vegetable garden which he shared with family, neighbors and friends. He would even take vegetables to the staff at his doctor's office when he had an appointment.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Parker Graves; and youngest son, Clinton Graves.

He will forever be remembered by his daughters, Melvine (Anthony) Grice, of McLeansville, NC, Wanda (Herbert) Summers, Angela (Jerry) Graves, Iris (Frank) Coleman, all of Gibsonville, NC, Pamela (Rodney) Roundtree, of Winston-Salem, NC, and Monica Jenkins, of Raleigh, NC; sons, John (Joyce) Graves, III, of Reidsville, NC, and Aubrey Graves, of Gibsonville, NC; eighteen grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Cecil Graves, of Reidsville, NC; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a host of other relatives and close friends.

We were blessed with being a close family. Though he may be gone from our daily lives, he will be with us in all we do. We loved him dearly and his legacy lives on with us all.

McLaurin Funeral Home is serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
