Mr. John Conwell passed away at North Shore University Hospital on August 1, 2019 in Manhasset, NY. He was born in Reidsville, NC on June 30, 1945 to the late John and Ellen Conwell. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1963.  In 1984, John graduated cum laude from York College and then received his master's degree from Brooklyn College in 1991.

John enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1964 to 1966 at which time he entered the United States Army Reserve. He retired from the New York City Housing Authority in 2010 after more than twenty five years of dedicated service.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ellen and is survived by his wife Mariana Conwell, his daughters Daniela Conwell (Barry) and Christine Conwell, sister Carolyn Williamson and her husband Leonard Williamson, Sr. of Greensboro, NC as well as her sons Anthony Conwell, Leonard Wendell Williamson (Latoya) and LeRone  Terrick Williamson (LaTasha), and his brothers William Conwell and Charles Conwell and many cousins.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 8 at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home in New Hyde Park, NY from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A private ceremony and burial will take place on Friday August 9 at the Calverton National Cemetary in Calverton, N.Y.
