Obituary

Ms. Joann Simpson Watkins, age 69, peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at her home.

Public viewing will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 2 to 8 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church, 191 High Rock Road, Gibsonville, NC. The family visitation and viewing will begin at 2 p.m.

Interment will be held privately.

Answering the call of her Heavenly Father, she is now reunited with her cherished mother, Flora Brown Simpson, father, Reese Ervin Simpson, sister, Bettye Simpson Peake, and brother, Vance L. Simpson.

Born the youngest of eight siblings, Joann's life journey encompassed diverse professional roles, culminating in her dedicated service as a caregiver in her later years. Embracing her faith early, she became a Camp Springs United Methodist Church member, later transferring her membership to Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church.

Joann epitomized a life filled with vibrancy centered on her love for her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Her existence was marked by simplicity, a resilient positivity towards life, and an unwavering commitment to relishing each moment. Her legacy includes memories of joy, laughter, and a profound dedication to being present and savoring the essence of every day.

A beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she leaves beautiful memories to be cherished by her children, Lamont Watkins, twins Meshon Watkins and RJ Watkins (Ivy); grandchildren, Keyona, Qynton, Christion and Caylei; siblings, George E. Simpson, Jackie L. Simpson (Penny), Alphonzo Simpson, Gail S. McGee (Tom) and Carol Simpson; bonus daughter, Tamika C. Watkins; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and treasured friends.
