REIDSVILLE - Ms. Joan D. Rankin, age 81, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2025 at Annie Penn Hospital.
Public viewing will begin on Friday, May 30, 2025 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 1 p.m. from the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 420 Mizpah Church Road, Reidsville, NC. The family visitation will take place at 12:30 p.m. Pastor Gregory Lee will preside and Pastor Paul N. Milton, eulogist.
The committal and interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel UMC Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
All other times, the family will receive friends at the residence, 508 Vance Street, Reidsville, NC.
Joan was born in Rockingham County, NC on April 26, 1944 to Ida Rankin Garrett.
She attended Rockingham County schools, graduating from Booker T Washington High School, class of 1962.
As a member of Wesley Chapel, over the years she served in many areas; church secretary, Sunday school teacher, member of the counting team, and sang in the Senior and Gospel choirs.
Joan was employed by VF (formerly Wrangler) for 42 years, retiring in 2010.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her step-father Jack Garrett, grandparents, Ida and Robert Rankin; aunt, Frances Apple, uncles Riley Rankin, Leonard (Corrine) Rankin, and Rufus (Cardella) Rankin.
She leaves to celebrate her life, daughter Monica Starks of Maryland; brothers, George "Bill" Rankin (Marva) of Reidsville NC, William Garrett (Vanessa) of Eden, NC and Wayne Garrett of Durham, NC; sister, Sharon Garrett Crisp of Reidsville, NC; granddaughter, Chenal Starks of Georgia; aunt Marjorie Rankin of Reidsville NC; nephews: Shawn Garrett (Charlotte), Darrel Adams, Miguel Clark, Wyatt Garrett, Garry Garrett Jr, Michael Adams; nieces: Tia Hill (Elliott), Carmon Hill (Tony), LaToya Alex (Jeramis), Karen Adams; great nephews and nieces: Anari and Azaan Garrett, Mahlia and Trey Hill, Zoë,Ziva and Ashlee Hill, Kaleb and Korren Alex; special family Eddrick Apple, Michele Dillman (Donnie), and Terry Apple; Mary Hall; Terry Starks; adopted daughters who all claimed to be "the good one", as well as a host of wonderful family and friends.
