Obituary

Mrs. Jean Annette Garland Oglesby Hubbard was called to rest on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Abbotts Creek Center in Lexington, North Carolina.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel, 721 E. Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC with family visitation one half hour prior to the service and burial to follow at Greenview Cemetery, Montgomery Street, Reidsville, NC.  Public visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Ms. Jean Garland Oglesby was born on August 16, 1947, to Ms. Bernice G. Calloway. Jean was affectionately referred to as "Annette" and "Mama Jean" by those who loved her dearly.  To know her was to love her.  She was the life of the party. Jean leaves memories of her many comical quotes and catch phrases.  Some of those are: "What it do, Boo?"; "You damn right!", "Don't play with me!", "I'm old school, girl!"  and quite a few others that she often added the "D" word to.
Jean had a keen eye for décor and fashion.  She could make the most inexpensive item look like it cost hundreds of dollars.  Jean never met a stranger and was a loyal friend to many.  Her smile and beauty were infectious.  While many have gone before her, it's comforting to know…she will not be forgotten.
Jean was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. Samuel Garland and Mrs. Annie Pearl Roach Garland; her uncles, Joe Roach and Leon "Bo" Garland and aunt, Inez Roach.
Jean leaves to cherish her many precious memories:  a son, Timothy "Termite" Garland and a daughter, Donna "Tilly" Oglesby; grandchildren, Jasmine Oglesby, Shakeria Fletcher, and Jamia Oglesby; great-grandchildren,  Donavyn Oglesby and Avianna Williams; siblings,  Marcus Calloway (Linda), Deborah Calloway, Vincent Calloway, Cheryl West (Milton), Michael Calloway (Wanda), Sharon Calloway, and Carol Carter (Jerry); a special aunt, Annie Pearl Stockton; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family.  Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
