After a lengthy illness James C. Winchester son of the late George Rucker Sr. and the late Mary (Winchester) Lewis was called home on May 22, 2012. James was born on April 1, 1939 in Reidsville, North Carolina. At the age of six he and his mother moved to Baltimore, MD.
Funeral services will be 12:30 P.M. Tuesday, May 29, 2012, with visitation 12:00-12:30 P.M. The wake will be Monday 6:00-8:00 P.M.
Loudon Park Funeral Home in Baltimore Md. is in charge of funeral services.
James attended Baltimore City Public Schools and after graduating from high school he started working for Catpaw as a factory worker for several years. Immediately following that, James sought a position at A & P Supermarket, he continued working as the company changed the name to Superfresh where he was a dedicated worker for many years until he retired in 1998.
James was baptized at New Shiloh Baptist Church and later joined Bethel AME Church. He had many hobbies, but his favorite was the game of golf, as he played often with his close friends. James also enjoyed the company of a close and special friend.
James was family oriented he loved traveling to North Carolina and Boston to visit family and friends. James loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grand children. He loved telling stories of "back in the day" when he was growing up and things were different.
James was preceded in death by two sons John A. Winchester (Donnie) and Kirk A. Winchester.
James leaves to cherish his wonderful memories three sisters Rev. Louise (Rucker) Blackwell, and Jackie Martin (Zack), both of Reidsville, N. C, Jackie Johnson (Vincent) of Philadelphia, PA. Four brothers George Rucker Jr. and Rev. George Gunn (Wanda), also of Reidsville N. C, Joel Rucker of Raleigh, N.C, and Elder Aaron Bernard Brim (Sandra) of Long Island, N. Y., step-mother, Mrs. Addie Rucker, Reidsville, NC.
His children Michele R. Williams, Cornelius Winchester (Jammie), Durand M. Winchester (Mark), (Betty), Varnetta Pugh, and Ronald Young. Nine grandchildren, Antoinette Williams (Nessa), James Winchester (Little Jammie), Donte Winchester, Rodney Williams, Mark Winchester, Lanea (Winchester) Wilson, Danyelle Winchester, Cornelius Winchester (Adam), and Alana Pugh. Twelve great-grand children and one great great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
