"First Lady" Mrs. Jacqueline Wilson Florence transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly reward on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church, 633 NC Highway 150W, Greensboro, NC with family visitation one half hour prior to the service and burial to be conducted from the St. Thomas Chapel Church Cemetery. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at McLaurin Memorial Chapel from 1:30 until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m. at the church.
Lady Jacqueline Michelle Wilson Florence was born on December 13, 1964, to Charlotte Wilson and the late John D. Wilson. She was a product of Rockingham County School and graduated in 1982 from Reidsville Senior High School. She furthered her education by attending Rockingham Community College and Winston-Salem State University where she majored in Business. Civically, she was a member of ABAWALA. Lady Florence was employed by the Reidsville Housing Authority for over 20 years.
Spiritually, Lady Jacqueline Florence came to know Jesus Christ at an early age. She joined the Elm Grove Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Cardes Brown. At Elm Grove, she found her divine gift of song and nurtured that gift by singing in the Junior and Young Adult Choir, the Mass Choir, the Spiritual Ensemble, and the famous Elm Grove Gospel Choir. As her amazing voice grew, she would eventually lead and direct the Junior and Young Adult Choir, the Senior Choir, and the Mass Choir. She also joined the critically acclaimed L.B. Florence Ensemble. She would use her extraordinary gift to perform at many weddings, funerals, and church services redefining the meaning of making a "Joyful Noise".
Lady Jacqueline was loved by everyone; her energetic personality and loving spirit captured the hearts of people of all ages. She would also use her gift of song by mentoring and advising countless singers and musicians.
In 1994, Jacqueline Wilson met the Rev. Lewis Bernard Florence. They were joined in the sacred union of marriage on October 14th, 2000. Through their union, they criss-crossed the nation spreading the Gospel through song and music. Finding another gift of spoken word, Lady Florence also served as the National Announcer of the Greater International Pentecostal Holiness Churches, Inc.
Walking faithfully with her loving and attentive husband, Lady Jacqueline faithfully served as the First Lady of the Galilee Pentecostal Holiness Church in Reidsville, NC from January 2009 until September 2021. Since October 2021, she faithfully served as the First Lady of the St. Thomas Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Greensboro, NC.
Lady Florence is preceded in death by her father, John D. Wilson.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Elder L. Bernard Florence of the home; mother, Charlotte Wilson of Reidsville, NC; sisters, Deborah Lane (Rev. Lawrence) of Greensboro, NC, Temely Wilson of Washington, DC and Bisceglari Wilson of Reidsville, NC; special niece, Kaylon Wilson; nephew, Ronnie Mitchell; god-children, Guyla Land, Patricia Neal, Jeremiah Walker, Chauncey Norman, Nikia Gorham-Teague; god-sister, Brenda Adams; aunts; uncles; cousins; and a plethora of other relatives and dear friends.
As hton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. C ovid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
