Ms. Irene Ophelia Mitchell passed on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 27, 2012 at Jackson United Methodist Church, with visitation 12:30-1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Irene was born December 14, 1913 in Rockingham County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Walter Luke Mitchell and Emma Womack Mitchell. She was educated in the Rockingham County School System.

Irene moved to Youngstown, Ohio and worked in the restaurant industry. After retiring, she returned home to Reidsville, North Carolina.

Sister Irene was a quiet woman and lived a simple life. She loved quilting, embroidering and gardening. She was a member of the Jackson United Methodist Church family.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and one sister.

She leaves to cherish her memory: brothers; Willie Lee Mitchell (Anna), Greensboro, NC, Norman Mitchell (Frances), Elon, NC, sister; Wilsie Mitchell, Reidsville, NC, brother-in-law; James W. Herbin, and sister-in-laws; Wylene Mitchell, Reidsville, NC, and Phyllis Mitchell, Youngstown, OH, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to her devoted nieces Darlene Herbin and Debra Herbin for their care and devotion. Also, special thanks to the staff at Maple Grove Caregivers and Beacon Place.
