Elizabeth Hairston was born on November 19, 1930, to Eugene Hairston Sr. and Mary Frances Bullock Hairston in Leakesville, North Carolina. She departed this life on July 14, 2016 at her residence.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Smyrna Church of Christ. Visitation will one half hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing will be Monday, July 18, 2016 at McLaurin Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
She attended school in Leaksville, North Carolina. She later attended The Cosmetology School at Douglas High School, Leakesville, North Carolina. She was employed at Fieldcrest Mills. Irene was a worker at The Senior Nutrition Center, where she received three awards for her participation. She gave her life to Jesus under the leadership of her brother Elder George Hairston and was directed to Smyrna Church of Christ under the spiritual guidance of founder and Pastor Bishop Preston Graves Sr , where she was a devoted member for over 40 years. She was a Missionary, Willing Workers Club, Pastors Aid Participant and a Lusterine Garrett. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins. member of the Senior Choir. She was an excellent cook and her food was loved by everybody.
She was precede in death by a daughter, Cindy Hairston, granddaughter, Smyrna Pass, four brothers: Joe Lee Hairston Sr., Eugene Hairston Sr., Edward Hairston Sr. and George Hairston Sr. and two sisters: Annie Bell Hairston and Estelle Hairston.
She is survived by three daughters and one son. Daughters: Dorethea Hairston Williams ( Issac), Eden, N.C., Audrey Wilson, Reidsville, N.C., Jackie Scales, Reidsville, N.C. Son: Howard Hairston, Eden, N.C.. Eleven grandchildren and a host of great- grandchildren, seven great- great grandchildren. Special recognition to great- granddaughter, " A Miracle" A` Miracle Irena Jones. Sister- in Law: Lois Hairston. Special nieces: Lavern Clark and Vona Mae Boyd. Best friend Lusterine Garrett and a host of nieces, nephews and cousin.
